Story themes focus on pre-reading skills and emotional/social expression using dance and movement to explore concepts such as adverbs, opposites and prepositions (e.g. up /down, over/under; slow/medium/fast); creating shapes and pathways in space that relate to letters and numbers; and developing pro-group social skills such as turn taking, moving as a whole cohesive group, and different partnering combos such as dyads, triads, etc. These explorations will all occur within the context of creative dance explorations that support the child's continued enjoyment of the power of dance as a tool for self-expression.

FAQ: WHEN IS MY CHILD READY TO BE IN CLASS INDEPENDENTLY?
If your child is close to four, but not there yet, here are some things to consider:

  1. Is the child able or ready to begin to follow directions and work in a group for the whole class time?
  2. Is the child ready for the next step in dance/movement exploration? We will be focusing on dance and movement skill development and mastery, expanding from the basics we have been focusing on such as hopping, jumping, and galloping.
  3. If part of the reason you are in class is to have a shared group experience with your child, this is invaluable. We should wait a semester to start this more independent class.
